Senator Courtenay Stands by P.U.P. Conservation Record
In response to Peyrefitte’s demand for an apology, Senator Eamon Courtenay referred to the People’s United Party’s strong track record on environmental conservation. He further stated that in negotiating the terms of the new agreement with The Nature Conservancy, fellow senator Chris Coye was successful in brokering a new deal.
Eamon Courtenay, Leader of Government Business
“We will not cede one millimeter to the U.D.P. in terms of our environmental record. The People’s United Party government has been the leader on environmental protection of this country from God mek mawnin. So don’t come here pretending that you have any righteousness on the question of environmental protection. Most of the environmental areas in this country have been promulgated and protected by the People’s United Party. So let me just start by saying that. And I want, Madam President, to respond to concerns raised by Senator Salas and taken up by Senator Bradley. You would get the impression, at least I got the impression that Senator Coye held a bazooka at the head of the people at TNC and tell dehn sign pan di dotted line. You know, it’s important that we be clear, Madam President, on this matter. TNC, ReWild and the government issued a press release. TNC and ReWild made no complaint. TNC and ReWild did not criticize the government. TNC and ReWild praised the Government of Belize.”
