Nature Conservancy: Blue Bonds Have Nothing to Do With Partisanship
And, if you thought the word “blue” in the term Blue Bond is referring to People’s United Party’s Blu manifesto or its party color, The Nature Conservancy says its organization is one hundred percent non-partisan. We spoke via zoom to Julie Robinson, Program Director at TNC.
Julie Robinson, Program Director, TNC
“One of the questions that a lot of people are asking is why are they called Blue Bonds, what are Blue Bonds? And so, just so you understand. The Blue Bonds for Oceans Conservation is a global program that TNC launched back in 2019. It was part of what we called a Ted Audacious Project. And, the reason for using the term Blue is strictly because of referencing the ocean, and the ocean is blue. It is talking about natural resources that we are trying to protect. That is why we call it Blue Bonds for Ocean Conservation. It’s a global recognized term. We speak of the Blue Economy and Blue Bonds. This is something that is recognized and used by many organizations across the world. So, that is the first thing I wanted to clarify. And the other thing, just to say that TNC has been working in Belize, this year makes it thirty years that we have been working in Belize. Everywhere we work in Belize, and everywhere, the seventy plus countries around the world, we are always working across all the administrations. We are completely none partisan. We work will all governments and in fact the work that we are doing started with the previous administration. So, there should be no association or political affiliation, because TNC is one hundred percent none partisan and we work with whichever administration is in government at the time.”
