APAMO Critical of Boiton Mining

The Association of Protected Areas Management Organizations has spoken out on mining operations in the Chiquibul. A release today from the association calls Boiton Minerals Limited’s mining operation destructive and says it can bring further loss of forest resources.  The organization notes that evidence gathered from an excursion to the Chiquibul National Park shows the severe damage caused to the natural resources by the mining operation.  APAMO says the protected area provides critical ecosystem services to Belizeans, particularly clean water. As a result, we cannot, “afford for destructive mining operations, wholly within our control, to bring further loss of forest resources.” The organization is calling on the Government of Belize to take urgent and decisive steps to halt this “threat.”
