K.H.M.H. in Phase 3 Emergency Mode
With the increase in active COVID-19 cases, the situation at the national referral hospital is worsening. A memo issued by the acting Human Resources Director, dated September second says that the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital is in emergency mode. The healthcare facility is in phase three of its COVID-19 response plan which has been activated. It means that additional space inside the facility is for the management of critical patients that have been diagnosed with COVID-19. According to today’s data from the Ministry of Health and Wellness, there are currently thirty-two hospitalizations and six ICU admissions. So what does mean for patients? Well, effectively immediately, routine emergency services will be relocated to specialist clinic; observation and asthma bay will be relocated to the former paediatric ward and that patient care for persons diagnosed with COVID-19 or under investigation remains at the accident and emergency unit. Of note is that elective surgeries will continue based on priority cases and outpatient clinics will be operated by appointments only.
