Palm View Center Now “Smarter” and Greener

Five healthcare facilities in Belize are being retrofitted to become safer during disasters, more energy efficient and greener.  The Palm View Center in Belmopan became the first to be certified under Smart Health Care Facilities in the Caribbean Project Phase Two Project.  The initiative is supported by the United Kingdom Department for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the British High Commission and the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization. During ceremonies on Wednesday, the building was officially handed over to the Ministry of Health and Wellness. According to a joint release from agencies involved, despite the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the retrofitting works began in October 2020 with the assistance of Guerra’s Construction Limited and Gutierrez and Associates Architects.  Other facilities in Belize which will be retrofitted are the San Ignacio Community Hospital, Independence Polyclinic, Isabel Palma Polyclinic, and Cleopatra White Polyclinic. The project is being carried out in seven countries – Dominica, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Guyana, Jamaica, and Belize.
