Isieni Garden Walk: A Peaceful Spot in Punta Gorda

A lot of business people and entrepreneurs are using some of the down time during COVID to retool their establishments or change how they engage with their customers.  But in Punta Gorda Town, one teacher who has a cultural gift shop as side business, has been using her green thumb to create a calming oasis in that urban setting.  And now, Isieni Gift Shop and Garden Walk is welcoming visitors, both international and domestic.  Our PG correspondent Stefan Nolberto spoke with owner Emely Ramirez.

“The pandemic has slowed down business all over eh world, and we definitely feel it in PG as well because normally PG doesn’t get a lot of tourists. At this point in time, it is even less. But what the time has given me as an entrepreneur and a gardener, it has given me time to develop the garden in way that when we have more people coming in, it will be even more inviting and it will be a lot more to see. Since we have been doing a lot of online, when it comes to teaching and even our workshops, I have a little bit more time to spend on the garden, and developing the parts that I would want to showcase when things pick up a little bit more.   It is good for locals as well as for visitors. Because especially in a time like this it is important for us to take care of our physical health as well as our emotional health. What I find out is that it’s quite a peaceful environment. So for locals, for Belizeans, in addition to it being a lovely peaceful atmosphere, we can all learn from each other.  That each person, each family, I believe, should be planting something in their backyards. So if I could influence or inspire people to plant something, whether it’s a tree, a shrub, vegetables or fruits that would be helpful for our local people.”

The Iseini Garden Walk is open from nine a.m. to five p.m. and reservations can be made by calling 631-6330.  It is located on Victoria Street in Punta Gorda.
