PM on Protecting Children from COVID

Today was the first day of classes for primary school students who had to return to classes—virtually once more—after their already considerable time with distance learning going back to March of 2020.  Today, Prime Minister John Briceño spoke about how government is addressing education in COVID times. He said that while the Pfizer vaccine is being rolled out to children from the age of twelve and over, protecting the younger children will depend on adhering to the social-distancing regulations and good hygiene practices.

“We almost feel like we’re stealing away from our children – that excitement of going to school, put on your new uniform, your new backpack, etc etc, but the reality is that we have COVID here and we have to protect our children.  Until we can get a vaccine that has been approved, we can only do the best that we can by having all the teachers vaccinated, all the people that work in the schools vaccinated so that the children can be in a safe environment and then have them learn to keep on their masks when they’re playing with their friends in the classroom and try to make sure that they’re constantly cleaning their hands. That’s as best as we can do right now.”
