Virtual Kulcha Symposium Begins September 1
The Heritage Education Network Belize is hosting its first annual Belize Kulcha Symposium. The event will be held from September first to the third, all virtually. We found out more about the event this morning.
Sylvia Batty, Archaeologist
“We are going to be hosting it on Facebook and on our YouTube Channel. So, if you go to the Heritage Education Network Belize Facebook or YouTube Channels, there are events. So, you could sign up for the events from day one, two and three. We have forty presenters, four zero. So, we have a solid three day lineup. We are looking at kulcha, so Belizean kulcha. Our symposium, kulcha symposium, is an acronym for keeping up with language, culture, heritage and art.”
April Martinez, Osteoarchaeology Lecturer, University of Belize
“We said Belize is the theme, everything that is Belize. And everybody that wanted to present asked, does it have to be anything specific? And, we said no. As long as you did research in Belize, about Belize, it’s everything Belizean. So dah Belizean kulcha. It is a four female archeology led network. And one of our directors who is in Hungry, she came to Sylvia, and we were in the midst of this pandemic and trying to figure out how we can help our friends and families that were affected in the arts heritage and tourism section.”
