Druewel Jones is the New National Queen of the Bay!

After seven years, the Belize District has regained the crown of the national Queen of the Bay. Druewel Jones competed against seven other delegates from across the country on Saturday night in the seventy-sixth annual pageant, which was held virtually for the second year in a row. They all competed in the introduction, talent, curtsy, and question-and-answer segments. In the end, Jones captured the coveted title to become the national Queen of the Bay designate. A nurse by profession, today, Jones spoke to News Five about accomplishing this dream and her mission during her reign.

“I was standing there and he said hailing from the country of Belize and my eyes opened big. So I was like can you say this again. And when he called my name, I relaxed. I did it! I did it! That was what was repeating in my head; I did it. It was not a walk through the park; it was not. For my district pageant, I feel like I was more confident at that point and going on to nationals are realising that I am surrounded by these beautiful girls – we all want the same thing, they are as motivated and energetic and competitive so that put a lot of pressure on me; besides from the fact that everybody wanted the crown to go back to Belize District to break that seven-year gap. When I went on to the stage, I still felt nervous, but I knew I had a duty to perform and did my part; I worked hard for this so it was only right that I performed and did what I practice so here I am. My priority right now when it comes to my platform is public health. I want to start my own campaign to encourage people to get vaccinated; if not, hear what are their thoughts. I think a lot of fear is surrounding the vaccine and now we are at a point that there is a new variant around and soon there will be another vaccine available to us, but we are still at the point to get the COVID vaccine. So it is important that we all play our part to combat so that the numbers do not continue to rise and the death toll – we have to get control of the situation to take care of our Belize.”

Jones also won Miss Eloquence, which was based on the introduction and the question and answer segments. Second place went to Karla Godoy of Toledo who won best dressed and best curtsy, meanwhile third place went to Melanie Tillett from Orange Walk, who won best talent.
