MoHW Emphasizes Restrictions on Social Gatherings

The Ministry of Health and Wellness today also issued a release on restrictions on social gatherings, reminding the public that it is not permitted at this time. It warns businesses to desist from promoting such activities. The ministry called on key social partners including local municipal administrators and the private and public sectors for cooperation as the country is going through a third wave of COVID-19. Today, when we caught up with ComPol Chester Williams, he says that the police department remains active in ensuring that persons adhere to the quarantine regulations.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“It is a part of our responsibility to ensure that we enforce the law. And if it is that there is to be a lockdown again, which I would not want to see because the truth is that the economy is just picking up and we need to see it continue to bloom, but if it is that there was to be one, then the police would have that duty again to ensure that we enforce the regulations. But having enforcing regulations, still does not change the fact that we need to act more responsible because yo find that police arrest people over and over which means that even having been arrested, they still don’t get the sense. They still continue to behave recklessly. So these are things that we need to change. What we need to fight this virus is a change of our behaviour. Stop the parties, stop the mass gather, wear yo mask, wash yo hands, sanitizing – those are things that we need to do more to fight the virus. And I would wish that as a people, we would all see that and abide by those protocols.”
