Will G.O.B. Make COVID-19 Vaccination Mandatory?

Not surprisingly, most of the news coming from this week’s cabinet meeting centered on the COVID-19 epidemic. But it seems the government will move away from its strategy of simply encouraging Belizeans to get vaccinated and may take a stronger approach. According to the weekly cabinet brief, the Prime Minister and his cabinet have asked the Attorney General to get medical expertise from the Ministry of Health and Wellness and to explore all necessary legal measures that the government may lawfully implement to help contain the spread of COVD-19.  These would include options to implement mandatory coronavirus vaccinations for both the public and private sectors or to require vaccination passes for the use of public spaces and for business facilities. cabinet has also asked the Attorney General to explore increasing penalties for offences relating to the spread of falsehoods, in particular the spread of disinformation on public health matters.
