Hospital conducts hurricane exercise
It’s almost a year since Hurricane Mitch threatened Belize, but better late than never. The Ministry of Health conducted a hurricane preparedness exercise at the Karl Heusner Memorial today. News Five spoke with the Nurse Administrator for the hospital about what they hope to achieve through the exercise.
Ivorine Bulwer Hemmans, Nursing Administrator
“We are doing a simulation exercise and we are looking really at the Ministry of Health, adequacy in response to a hurricane disaster situation. In our administration lounge we have the key players in the Ministry of Health and we’re looking at our effectiveness in responding to a hurricane disaster.”
The six hour tabletop run dubbed “Exercise Windbreaker” was coordinated through the Health Sector Disaster Management Committee with support from the Belize Defense Force.
