Agribusiness grants available from European Union

Story Picture
The European Union is offering grants from ten thousand to one hundred thousand Belize dollars to agribusiness owners to cover up to seventy-five percent of the cost of a research or training project. Adelina Jeffrey, Trade Investment and Promotion Service National Coordinator says the fund was made possible through Belize’s membership in CARIFORUM. Jeffrey says fifteen member countries have also received the fund which is a project of the Caribbean Agriculture and Fisheries Programme.

“They have found some research on this issue and they found that with research and training that companies are able to improve in productivity. That is forty percent higher productivity than in other areas that they may use their resources. They have also found that we use very little of our resources to invest in research and training and because of that they found that giving grants such as this it will help to encourage these agribusinesses to become more involved in research and training projects, so that they will in turn become better and more competitive within the international market.”

If you would like more information on how you can access the CARIFORUM Agribusiness Research and Training Fund, you can contact TIPS in Belmopan at 08-23737 or 08-20178.
