Onion Farmers Thank Minister Mai

Earlier this month, News Five reported on the dilemma that onion farmers found themselves in when they had problems getting their one hundred and forty thousand pounds of onions on the market for sale. They said it was due to contraband activity that had effectively boxed them out. Well, after our story aired, there was an immediate response by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Jose Abelardo Mai. He personally checked the markets and salvaged the situation so the farmers were able to sell their onions. Today in appreciation for his efforts, two brothers representing the Bomba United Farmers presented the Minister with a voucher for five hundred dollars worth of fuel to the Agriculture Ministry. Member of the Bomba United Farmers, Fernando Orellana did the honours on behalf of the community.

“Minister Mai came to see us on the field and he act immediately and also we saw the difference in sales. The product, as he mentioned, was done very fast, the date that he gave, we ended exactly with that date and we really appreciate that type of assistance from the Minister, Abelardo Mai and the Agriculture Department also. So on that case, we as the Bomba United Farmers really appreciated what they do and what they have done and we would like to give a donation to the Minister and his department. They can use it on whatever, visit farms or whatever they would like to do.”
