Darrell Bradley on Living with Outcome of U.D.P. Recall Convention

Earlier today, we asked Darrell Bradley for a comment on the results of the July eleventh U.D.P. recall convention at the Bird Isle.  Bradley, now a U.D.P. senator, was being positioned to become a candidate at a National Party Leader Convention if Patrick Faber was unsuccessful.  Bradley has publicly stated that he is of the view that Faber is not the strongest leader for the party at this time. This afternoon, he told us that he maintains that position and while the party wants change, it will be done peacefully and respectfully.

Darrell Bradley, U.D.P. Senator

“So, yes we have the recall mechanism, the honorable Patrick Faber won that recall and he remains the leader of the U.D.P., but it is, how do we deliver good governance? How do we position the United Democratic Party to have a strong party platform so that we are talking about poverty reduction, economic development, job creation, and moving the country of Belize forward. And, that remains my dilemma.  I have no difficulty with the honorable Patrick Faber. I am a supporter of the UDP, but I want the Party to reform and adopt policies and personalities that will ensure the Party is seen as a credible alternative to the governing People’s United Party.”

Paul Lopez

“You have stated publicly that it is your opinion that he is not the strongest leader to lead the party forward. Is that still your position?”

Darrell Bradley

“That is still my position, and I do agree with the view that that position shared by me is nothing against the honorable Patrick Faber. But, if you are going in any competition, if you are running a race, if you are dealing with softball or anything, you want to put your strongest pitcher forward. You want to ensure that you have a team that can resonate with the public, that can expire change and credibility and confidence, and I just don’t think under the current configurations the United Democratic Party has put forward its best.”

Paul Lopez

“While your hope to become leader may have been dashed after that Sunday recall convention, does that hope still live for future tense?”

Darrell Bradley

“Well, I wouldn’t say that there was a hope because there was no vacancy and there is no vacancy for leader of the United Democratic Party. The recall mechanism had to go through first. There is a leader. While the results went in a way which I believe the majority of the Party did not want, he remains the leader. We are a party of due process and laws, we follow the law. There is a certain outcome in there. We all may not be happy with the outcome but we have live with the outcome. We want change, but we will move for change in a peaceful and respectful manner.”
