Ochuna Presents a New Indoor/Outdoor Dining Experience

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many of us to rethink the way in which we go about our daily lives.  In the hospitality industry, the strictures that come along with the many regulatory adjustments, where restaurants and bars are concerned, have prompted business owners to return to the drawing board. News Five’s Isani was at a soft opening for a new restaurant in Belize City last night.  Welcome to Ochuna, an indoor/outdoor dining experience at the Tropicana Casino that offers something different than what is otherwise being offered on the entertainment strip.

“Of course, we are coming with a different concept.  We are bringing different concepts in everything.  Talking about food, we are coming with international foods, we have different dishes from different parts of the world.  We are bringing a different concept, the same with the drinks and the same with the show or the performances that we are having while the people are having dinner.”


To get a firsthand experience, the media was invited to a soft opening on Wednesday night.  The live, instrumental performances are indeed a touch of class.

“We are going to have performances with saxophones, violinists, and of course drummers, people performing while the people are having dinner here.”


And while guests will be trying out Ochuna’s menu for the first time, the offering covers a range of international and local cuisines.  Hector Sordo is the head chef at Ochuna.

“Our kitchen is basically based in Asian, Mexican and Belizean fusion flavors, you know.  So it’s a very, very good experience for us to be here and for us to offer a new taste, a new flavor for Belizeans and the tourism people, you know.  This concept, we want the people that come to have the craziest flavors of their lives, talking about food because it’s very, very good, not because I am the chef but it’s a new thing, you know, new flavors that I think Belizeans haven’t tasted yet, so we just wanted to offer that in accordance with the experience that we have in the restaurant industry, we think we have a very good chance to offer some very good quality food.”
