Faber Says Barrow Cannot Force U.D.P. to Take Position on 11th Amendment

A rift has already developed between U.D.P. Party Leader Patrick Faber, who just retained his position during Sunday’s recall convention, and the party’s Leader of the Opposition, Shyne Barrow.  On Monday, a statement was issued by the U.D.P. Parliamentary Caucus which says the Opposition is staunchly against the Eleventh Amendment.  But when Patrick Faber appeared on Channel Five’s Open Your Eyes this morning, he said Barrow’s personal agenda is causing him to try and force the party to take a stance without consultation.

“This is something that Shyne continues to do. It is an appeal that I am making again today for them to stop. Shyne has a personal position and of course there is a press on him to be very urgent in this matter. It affects whether he will be able to continue. I am speaking on the Eleventh Amendment. But you cannot force the party into that position and even if there are others in the party who has that position. And even if there are others in the party who has that position, in fact, when you hear me speak of the eleventh amendment; I have never said that I support it or don’t support it. So, to put me in that category – I have seen him make positions that everybody else in the parliamentary caucus supports it but that is not true because I have never given a position. All I have said is that I am not in a rush to make a position and neither is the party because while he can speak for his colleagues – I noticed that he put my name up there too and the truth is that I have not given an official position and so that is not a proper representation of me. I supposed if he has indeed polled other parliamentary colleagues who have said that then you will know that their names are on there and they will have to pander to him because he is the leader of the opposition; even the senators and one day senators will have to respond accordingly because they know how he is.”
