New App for Belizean Football
There seems to be an app for just about everything, and today the “Socaloca” mobile app and web-based system was launched by the Football Federation of Belize. It is designed for athletes, coaches, as well as team managers and tournament organizers to create profiles showcasing their skills, stats, videos and progression in the sport. According to the F.F.B., Socaloca will help with the networking players need to be scouted, or just improve on their skills.
Rafael Avila, Competition Director, F.F.B.
“It’s a first in Belize for the federation as well. We have signed a memorandum of understanding and we are ready to kick this off and ensure that we can have our players participate, at the same time getting active into the use of the app. It is going to be something huge and I am pretty sure that with this, we will have our players being scouted, our players being looked at keenly in this sport. We need to showcase our players and through this we will have our competitions running properly.”
Sayf Ismail, Co-founder, SocaLoca
“One of the things that we realised is that smaller countries kind of struggle in showcasing talent and development because of a lack of infrastructure, lack of funds and so on and so forth. And we thought what if there is an app that could help to democratise football; what if there was an app that could showcase talent and bring talent forward from anywhere in the world. If that person or player has potential, then that player should have an equal opportunity to succeed in the footballing world. Football is the most global sport and we’ve seen this in the pandemic the importance of football. Even though we are in a pandemic, football has to go on.”
The F.F.B. has signed a partnership agreement with MatchMakR Limited for the app. The collaboration will see MatchMakr and F.F.B. working for adoption of Socaloca by amateur players, academies/football clubs and local tournament organizers in Belize.
