Life Guard Beaten to Death; Villager Charged

Also over the weekend, a Big Falls resident, Simon Baki has died from chop wounds.  He was reportedly out drinking when the attack occurred. He was rushed to the Punta Gorda hospital, but pronounced dead upon arrival.  Today, after consulting with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, police arrested and charged Donicio Pau, a farmer of Big Falls Village for the crime of manslaughter.

“Police went to a scene in Big Falls Village where they saw Baki with a large cut wound. It is believed that Baki was in that area consuming alcohol beverage earlier. He was attacked and received the injuries. When he was transported to Punta Gorda Town Hospital where they pronounced him dead on arrival.”

“We cannot verify how many persons attacked him, but we know that he had two large cut wounds to the body that we believe may have caused his death.”

“Has the police been able to gather any information to determine whether his life had been threatened before or that he had any run-ins with the law, anything?”

“Duane, I haven’t received any update from the initial report that they sent, but as soon as we have clarity, we will send that out because at the end of the day, it is very important for us to investigate thoroughly when it comes to murder instead of putting out what we believe.”
