Petkaus on Remand for Kidnapping and Assault in Shipyard

Johan Petkau

A father and his three sons, as well as an employee of the family, are behind bars at the Belize Central Prison where they will remain until August tenth when they are set to return to court. On Wednesday afternoon, forty-one-year-old Johan Petkau, a resident of Shipyard, Orange Walk District, appeared in the lower court along with Jacob, George and Franze Petkau where they were jointly charged for kidnapping and wounding twenty-year-old Abram Andres. As we reported, several members of the Petkau family, accompanied by eighteen-year-old Angel Ayala, showed up at Central Meat Distributors on Monday afternoon where they forcibly took Andres to an area of that Mennonite community and beat him.  Andres was whipped repeatedly using an electrical cord. The incident was reportedly triggered by a previous altercation between Andres and one of the Petkau boys. With the exception of Ayala, a resident of August Pine Ridge all four men were additionally charged for wounding.
