Four Seasons Resort Coming to Caye Chapel; Entertainment Zone at Northern Border
In news from this week’s Cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister is in the United States to meet the U.N. Secretary-General, António Guterres for discussions on climate change, Belize’s work on the Economic and Social Council, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Guatemalan claim to Belizean territory, which is now before the International Court of Justice. Deputy Prime Minister, Cordel Hyde is acting Prime Minister. In this week’s cabinet update, tourism stakeholders will be interested to know that Cabinet approved fiscal incentives for a luxury Four Seasons resort to be built at Caye Chapel. According to the weekly cabinet brief the property to be developed by the Caye Chapel Company Limited will include a 100 room hotel, spas, golf course, marina and airstrip. There will also be some big changes at the northern border area with approval given for an entertainment and recreation park with Designated Processing Area (DPA). On the corona virus front, the Ministry of Health and Wellness reported to Cabinet that the June vaccine roll out has so far distributed twelve thousand COVID-19 vaccinations countrywide. To date, a little over thirty-four thousand people are now fully vaccinated.
