Staffing Changes at Youth Hostel

The Ministry of Human Development is trying to rehabilitate the image of the youth hostel with major infrastructural and programmatic changes. But there is also new staff placed in key positions at the youth hostel. Anne Palacio was introduced today as the director of programmes at the facility. The hostel falls under the community rehabilitation department of the ministry but that department has been without a director for some time. Noticeably absent was senior personnel Maureen Williams who is the Deputy Director. Today, Minister Balderamos-Garcia was asked why Williams and other seniors didn’t attend the tour.

“They were invited. They were invited. It could be that they had urgent matters that came up but I think that Ms Pearlene and Ms Annie have been quite capable in showing us around. We will check it out. I won’t be making excuses. I think, perhaps, one of them ought to have been here but we have an extremely busy ministry to run. For example, Ms. Tanya Santos, our CEO, is not with us today because she is in other meetings. And I would hope that it would be for that reason. But no excuses.”

“What is the relationship between the Program Director and the Director the Hostel? Because we understand that they chose to boycott today?”

“No. No. I wouldn’t say so at all. I wouldn’t go far as that whatsoever. And I think that the relationship with the program director and the staff is pretty good. As you can see the kids are out; I really do believe we are going in the right direction in terms of cooperating with all the staff.”

“Minister, who is the current person in charge of the facility?”

“Ms. Maureen Williams. She is the current deputy director of the community rehab department and we are seeking a director per se. We don’t have that individual as yet but we do have the post and so we are looking into that.”
