Report on 2015 Fatal Youth Hostel Fire Still Not Released

During the tour of the hostel, Minister Garcia told reporters she doesn’t want to see a repeat of the tragic fire that claimed the lives of the three girls in solitary confinement back in 2015. She was asked about if the report on the fire will ever see the light of day.

“I don’t want to speak too much to that because we still have to look at what the attitude of government will be, whether, in the future, as to make it public. At the time it was not and that would have to be a decision that is above my pay scale right now. It would have to be Cabinet. But speaking for myself, I wouldn’t have a difficulty because we have to learn from our mistakes; we must learn from our mistakes as opposed to blaming one person or two persons but seeing how we can make a situation better moving forward.”
