Camalote Residents Get Vaccinated Against COVID-19
A similar vaccination drive has been carried out in Camalote where dozens of residents from that community, as well as other neighboring villages in Cayo District, came out to get their COVID jabs on Monday. According to Chairman Derrick Parham, the event was held in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Belize Family Life Association and attendance throughout the day was impressive. The vaccine drive was supported by an information campaign.
Derrick Parham, Chairman, Camalote Village
“Our main goal is to get as much information as possible to residents, not only in Camalote but also the surrounding villages to get the vaccine as quickly as possibly as it is available so that at least the COVID [infection] rate could be reduced as much as possible and we could get back to our normal way of life.”

“What has been the turnout since this morning, in terms of the activity here?”
Derrick Parham
“We’ve had a pretty good turnout up to lunch time. Apart from the weather, a lot of residents have decided to take the opportunity to come and get tested and to get their vaccinations done.”

“Now as a community leader and as someone who is participating in this activity, have you taken your shot or where do you stand with regards to that?”
Derrick Parham
“I’m about to take my shot in the next five minutes. As I said, I was advised by a doctor friend of mine because, if I’m not mistaken, my dad had contracted it some months ago and her advice to me was to make sure that I am fully safe before I get this vaccine conducted. So it fell in this time of the month, so I decided as it is readily available for myself [that] I would take it.”
