Jervis Valencia is Shot Through Ghost Town, Again

Jervis Valencia

There was another bold attempt made on the life of well-known street figure Jervis Valencia, it’s the second time since the beginning of the year that he has been shot in his own neighborhood.  The ongoing spat between factions of the Ghost Town Gang continues to see bloodshed.  This morning, shortly after six a.m., Valencia was walking in an alley near Mayflower Street when he was accosted by two individuals who opened fire on him.  The thirty-eight-year-old, who is no stranger to the law, was shot once through the left jaw.  At the scene of the shooting, police were able to recover two expended nine millimeter shells.

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Director, Belize Police Department

“He was just taking a casual walk because of course he claims that he works out every day and of course if you knew that trouble was coming your way, I don’t believe you would have put yourself in a position to become an easy target. We have two persons of concern detained.  The incident occurred this morning at about six o’clock.  He was walking in the Mayflower [Street] area when he was approached by two armed men who opened fire on him, hitting him in the face.  He was transported to K.H.M.H. where he was listed in a stable condition. When or whether or not we get that formal statement from him will determine a lot in the way forward for this investigation.”

“Are you all concerned over what is reputed to be a prominent figure of that Ghost Town area?  He is once again targeted and there may be retaliations?”

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood

“When it comes to internal problems, when you have a group like this we try our best to find out what is the root of that problem and if you, the victim of that crime, don’t give us much to go on then we have to try to put our ears on the ground to see how best we can pick up on that and bring in the necessary agencies to try to work out these problems.”
