Dr. Hildalgo on “Infomedia” Misinformation

Seeking to allay people’s fears about the COVID-19 vaccine, Doctor Jorge Hidalgo, Intensive Care Specialist at the Belize Health Care Partners, told the hosts of Open Your Eyes that the vaccines are backed by years of research and scientific evidence. He says the public needs to consider facts, not just what is shared on social media.

“What we are fighting during this pandemic, we are fighting two things. We are fighting the “pandemia”, and we are fighting the “infomedia”. You open your phone, and you have a thousand different messages and people that saying that they know, but with no facts. The situation with the vaccine is just to emphasize not that the vaccine came out from six months. Remember we have the initially at the beginning of 2002, we have the SARs. And the technology that came since 2002 and 2013 due to the initial situation, it helped us to develop the vaccine faster. It is nothing that comes up from a day or two like magic. It is a scientific proven and scientific evidence, and years of investigation.”
