Vaccinations to Prevent Serious Cases of COVID-19

Fernando Cuellar

Doctor Cuellar noted that while the vaccination adds a layer of protection that can prevent serious illness and even death, it does not stop people from catching the virus.  Still, those who are not vaccinated are more likely to end up in the hospital or I.C.U. unit.

Dr. Fernando Cuellar, Internist, Belize Medical Associates

“The final object, the reason we are getting vaccinated is to prevent serious illness and deaths. Hospitalization, I.C.U., pain and suffering and death. That is the real use of the vaccine. The vaccine does not prohibit or stop people from catching the virus. There is even some debate, if you catch it if you are infectious. That is why I would still suggest that although we are vaccinated, like I am, that we still use face masks. We are not quite out of it yet. But, I for one, myself, and those around me have applied the vaccine to prevent serious illness and death. And, I am seeing that in my practice over the past three and four months. The people who have been vaccinated are the ones who do not get terribly sick, as opposed to those who have not been vaccinated, and would end the hospital and the I.C.U. unit.”
