Hartin Charged for Common Assault; ComPol Wants Bail Revoked

Chester Williams

But what led to the recent charges levelled against Jasmine Hartin in San Pedro? Today, she appeared before the magistrate for charges of common assault and possession of a controlled drug. Despite objections made by the prosecutor, the magistrate offered bail of one thousand dollars, which up to news time was not met as yet. Commissioner Chester Williams explains those charges brought against the Canadian national and says that he would ask the office of the D.P.P. to apply for Hartin’s bail to be revoked.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“Based on the complaint that was lodged, the San Pedro police had requested that whenever Miss Hartin would have reported to sign in at San Ignacio Town Police Station, that she be detained as the nature of the report was for use of indecent language, I think common assault and disorderly behaviour. I also saw that there were some video footages that were on different news and social media outlets which to some extent depicts the behaviour of Miss Hartin when she visited some hotel in San Pedro. You would know that upon being granted bail by the Supreme Court, one of the conditions of her bail was that she is to be on good behaviour and the actions depicted on the footages as well as he complaint made by the two individuals surely goes to show that she is not being of good behaviour. And so on that basis, we are requesting of the D.P.P. to approach the Supreme Court and have her bail revoked on the basis that she has violated the bail condition by not behaving in an orderly manner as the court have directed her to do.”

In court today, Crown Counsel Shanice Lovell made mention of this charge brought against Hartin, but because today’s session was not to hear an application for bail revocation, it was not dealt with by the judge.
