Mark Burgess is Shot on Iguana and Seagull

Fitzroy Yearwood

A Belize City resident is recovering from a gunshot injury following an attempt on his life on Friday night.  Mark Burgess was walking along Iguana Street around ten-thirty p.m. when upon reaching its intersection with Seagull Street someone opened fire.  The Lakeview Street resident was injured in the shooting and was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he remains in stable condition.

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communication Director, Belize Police Department

“Mr. Burgess reported to police that he was walking on Iguana Street when he was approached from behind.  He’s saying that he didn’t actually see the shooter and he heard shots fired and felt that he was hit.  He was transported to the K.H.M.H., he’s in a stable condition and our investigators are continuing, as we speak, to try to establish who was the perpetrator of that one and as soon as we know, you will know.”

“Sir, has this gentleman been targeted before in any sort of violent incidents like this?”

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood

“Not to my knowledge, maybe or maybe not, but I cannot say that I know of any incidents where he was targeted.”

Police were able to recover a pair of expended shells from the scene of the shooting.
