U.D.P. Chairman Says Recall Petition Does Not Weaken Party

Michael Peyrefitte

And what does the chairman thinks of this so-called “leadership crisis” the U.D.P. is facing?  He told us that he never expected they would be going through this, but it is all part and parcel of the democratic process.

Michael Peyrefitte, Chairman, U.D.P.

“It is unusual. As I have said before, it is never a good thing. It is not a pleasurable thing to go through but it is provided for in the Constitution. I disagree that this weakens the party so to speak. I think sometimes these things can be good. If you have issues with people and put things to the test, then put it to the test. I can assure you that if the recall of Mr Faber is victorious at that leadership recall, then everybody including those who led the petition drive would have to respect the fact that the delegates want to keep Mr. Faber as the leader and they will also have to continue to respect the fact that Mr. Faber is the leader. Mr. Faber as a leader will be encouraged to reach out to some of those very same persons who tried to recall him so that we can mend fences and we can move on.   We will have to move on, come what may we will have to move on because the organization is much bigger than any one of us and than a group of us.  We have to get it behind us at some point. We have to deal with it at some point. But we are still very early before a next general election. We are still very early in the rebuilding process and I am not as concerned with it as most people are because I think that from within this is what happens. When you are building a business; rebuilding family ties; you go through these difficulties.”
