ComPol on Communications Director Fitzroy Yearwood

Chester Williams

The return of Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood as the Communications Director for the police department, more specifically the Commissioner of Police, had many wondering why the ComPol who is usually very accessible needs to have a press liaison.   Williams says he will still make himself available to the press when necessary.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“Being the person I am, I always have open-door police with the media. Contrary to what some of you believe that Mr. Yearwood being appointed as my Communications Director is a move to stifle me, that is not true. As a matter of fact, I am giving you all an interview now, which simply means I am still free to give interviews when I feel like. But I believe as the commissioner of police I have other things to deal with. And many times, you people in the media have been behind me and harassing me for interviews in respect to different issues. I do believe that you are entitled to have the interview. So to ensure we facilitate you in a more timely manner, Mr. Yearwood is assigned as my communications director. And whenever there is any major concern that should be addressed by me personally, then I am going to make that appearance.”
