Cab Driver Perishes in RTA near Warrie Head
A deadly head-on collision has claimed the life of a taxi driver in Cayo District. The accident happened on Sunday night just before curfew. Alberto Jimenez was driving his cab along the George Price Highway near Ontario Village when he crashed into compact crossover vehicle. Jimenez succumbed while receiving emergency medical treatment. The driver of the Ford Escape is also hospitalized. This morning, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood provided additional details.

“Around 9:45 p.m., police were called out in the vicinity of Warrie Head where they saw a white Geo Prizm taxi and a Ford Escape. The victims of both vehicles were already transported to the Western Regional [Hospital]. We understand that Alberto Jimenez who was the taxi driver, passed away while undergoing treatment. The other driver and his passenger are hospitalized, receiving treatment up to now. We know that NIPs have been served and the investigators will know what charges, if any, will be directed after the completion of that investigation.”

“Sir, is there any indication as to what caused the accident at this time?”

“So far, we understand that the taxi was traveling from the direction of Belmopan towards San Ignacio, while the Escape was traveling in the opposite direction and they had a head-on collision. We do not know the main reason for the collision as yet, but as soon as the driver of the Escape is able to talk, because I know that as recent as this morning, they had to do a procedure on him, so we will have to wait until the doctors give us clearance to do an interview with him.”
