Is the ComPol Being Muzzled?

But was Yearwood’s shift to Communications Director of the Belize Police Department a political move to muzzle the ComPol Chester Williams and his office?  There is speculation from various quarters who question why Williams, who has been very open with the media and is also a trained attorney, would need a public relations officer. Here’s how Yearwood responded to that question.

“Like you said, it is a suggestion and people are entitled to their own opinions. And the commissioner is the person that made that call. He is the person that personally came to me and asked me to do it. I don’t believe it is muzzling and like I said, he will do his appearances. But he is saying that it is getting overwhelming and he has other duties other than addressing media related questions. So he made that call and I welcome the idea and I am here.”
