Two Hundred Thousand Belizeans Yet to be Fully Vaccinated

Natalia Largaespada Beer

With the donation, Belize now has approximately one hundred and fifteen thousand doses of COVID-19 vaccines in county.  But while the COVID-19 vaccines keeps coming in, the reality is that more than two hundred and thirty thousand Belizeans are yet to be fully vaccinated for the Ministry of Health and Wellness to reach its target.  News Five spoke to Doctor Natalia Beer.

Dr. Natalia Largaespada Beer, Maternal & Child Health Technical Advisor, M.O.H.W.

“In regard to the donations that we received from Mexico, a hundred thousand doses of AstraZeneca Vaccine, this started with a request submitted by Prime Minister John Briceño, to the Mexican Government, through the Mexican Embassy here in Belize. Since then, we have been following up on this request. Well finally it was materialized with the delivery of the vaccine.”

Paul Lopez

“What is the Ministry’s goal for vaccination, if you have one? How many persons are we hoping to be vaccinated by what time?”

Dr. Natalia Largaespada Beer

“The timing is a bit difficult, because it depends on many variables outside of our control, like the availability of vaccines. Remember we have shared with you all that the target for persons eighteen years and older is two hundred and fifty-two thousand, nine hundred and seven person. That represents fifty eight percent of the total population of Belize, which is four hundred and nineteen thousand, one hundred and ninety-nine.”
