Arriving Early: Belizeans Eager for their Second Jab

Natalia Largaespada Beer

Of the seventy-two thousand Belizeans who have already received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, up to sixteen thousand have received their second and final shot.  Doctor Beer says vaccination hesitancy is not an issue among persons scheduled for a second dose. On the contrary, some are showing up too early for their second jab.

Dr. Natalia Largaespada Beer, Maternal & Child Health Technical Advisor, M.O.H.W.

“They are coming, and they are coming in a little bit too early. But we are recommending twelve weeks, between first dose and second dose. Remember, we started the first of March. So, March, April, May June, we are just supposed to be starting the second dose, but we already have sixteen doses administered. So, I think we are pretty good when it comes to second dose.”

Paul Lopez

“That early time period where people are coming in, that does not pose any health risk to those persons?”

Dr. Natalia Largaespada Beer

“No, no, no.  It is not. No health risk. Some of them are getting ready to travel. We did announce at the beginning eight weeks and then we moved to the twelve weeks. So I guess they are just honouring the date that we give them for appointment.”
