Ten Percent Salary Reduction Takes Effect Today

The Briceño administration is proceeding with the reduction of working hours for public officers effective June fourteenth.  This morning, Public Service C.E.O. Rolando Zetina sent a circular memo to the Office of the Governor General, the Chief Justice, the Auditor General, Financial Secretary and several others, including C.E.O.s and heads of departments.  As conveyed in government’s letter of clarification, the Joint Unions have approved a reduction of working hours by five hours per week.  Likewise, a memo was sent out last Friday by Chief Education Officer Yolanda Gongora to managing authorities in respect of the ten percent salary reductions which came into effect today, in line with the advice and instructions of the Ministry of Finance.  The Ministry of Education also reminded managing authorities that attendance records must be clear and accurate, particularly as of May seventeenth, for the days during which teachers were on strike.  This is so, in order for the June thirtieth payroll which will reflect docked salaries for teachers who participated in the strike beyond May fourteenth.
