P.S.U. Responds to Labour Commissioner Statement

Anne Marie Thompson

The Public Service Union is calling on the Labour Commissioner, Anne Marie Thompson to stay out of matters that do not concern her.  This is in response to Tuesday’s written statement by Thompson calling out the unions for acting ‘unlawfully’ by blocking highways and bridges.  The Labour Commissioner condemned those actions and also out the unions for breaching the COVID-19 regulations.  The release refers to these actions as quote “criminal and reckless.”  Well, today both the President and Vice President of the Public Service Union responded to the Commissioner’s statement.

Dean Flowers

Dean Flowers, 1st Vice President, P.S.U.

“She said that blocking roads is not in line with international laws. Everywhere on the face of the earth there is civil unrest, protest, the roads will be blocked. Tell Ms. Thompson please man, get out and smell the coffee, smell the flowers. She needs to do her job. Do your job Ms. Thompson.   Do your job and stop wasting time with nothing that concerns you. The only thing that concerns you and the Minister is the convening of the dispute tribunal so that we can settle this matter. Outside of that please do not speak to the union about COVID and blocking roads.”

Gerald Henry

Gerald Henry, President, P.S.U.

“We submitted to them thirty-seven days now that we have an industrial impasse. They should have taken that to the tribunal, and they refuse to do so, simply mean they are not doing their job. You have to put down your foot as a public officer and do what is right for you to do. They have not done so. We have also had issues where details of people being victimized and terminated have been sent to the Labor Department. They have done nothing. Man, even if these persons were terminated, man ensure that these persons are paid what they are due.”
