Government of Israel Donates to Diabetes Association

The Government of Israel has had diplomatic relations with Belize since 1984 and today, as that country celebrates its seventy-third anniversary of independence, it is giving back to Belize. That gesture is in the form of a two-thousand-dollar donation to the Belize Diabetes Association and will help some fifteen diabetic persons.  News Five was at the Radisson in Belize City where a brief handing over took place.

Rose Wischenka, Honorary Consul, Israel in Belize

“We checked several worthy causes and we came to the conclusion, my embassy and myself, that this would be one of the best. At least of all of them, there are so many, but at least this would help.”

“Talk to us about the amount that is being donated?”

“Two thousand dollars and it is going to fifteen people to buy food and needles and strips and the things that they need. We wish we could help many more, but…”

Linette Valerio, Acting President, Belize Diabetes Association

“It’s a very timely donation. We have persons living with diabetes who really need the support and have been calling our office for support and intervention in the management of their diabetes. It comes at a time where we can call back and give more. We are able to support, but with donations such as these we can give a little bit more. The donation will assist us in buying diabetes healthcare packages for fifteen persons living with diabetes, including children type one. The package will comprise of monitors, strips, land sets, facemasks, hand sanitizers and even some food items.”
