Go-Slow Still in Effect for Nurses Association of Belize

Darrell Spencer

As we said, the nurses were out today in full force, joining the members of the P.S.U. and the B.N.T.U.  President Spencer called on nurses from within the public and private sectors to come out in support because all will be affected by the decisions taken by the government.  Spencer reiterates that the go-slow continues for members of the Nurses Association of Belize, and reminds the government that nurses are a valuable talent pool who could easily find work elsewhere.

Darrell Spencer, President, Nurses Association of Belize

“Shutdown or a go-slow – don’t confuse the two. We will never encourage nurses to walk out of the hospital on a mass exodus. That is what the government will make happen because if I cut the nurses’ salaries, if I raise taxes in the country, if I raise goods and services in the country, you know what happens my brother, the market outside of Belize looks very beautiful, even more so beautiful to the nurses of Belize. Nurses is a commodity in this country and the way they are being treated is so wrong. We are free to move on. Do we as a citizen want to have our nurses move away? That is what we are fighting for. Get this thing right.”
