News Five spends Christmas Eve on Albert Street

Story Picture
Tonight the big story of course is Christmas. And what better way for News Five to report it, than to be where the action is: on Albert Street. Janelle Chanona is live in front of Brodie’s and ready to talk to some of the people who are doing that last minute shopping.

Janelle Chanona

“Good evening Belize. Thanks Jackie. I’m here with Dr. Shaw and he’s out here with his family doing some last minute shopping. Tell me what do you see in the stores that you like?”

Dr. Shaw, Shopper

“I’ve been visiting the streets and I enjoy the shopping down here and I went down to the Sings Store and I bought several items. It’s a very popular sauce down here and no wonder it’s very hot. And an extra part of the hotness is right here, look here, no wimps allowed and my goodness!”

Q: “Are you gonna put some of the sauce on your Christmas dinner tomorrow too?”

Dr. Shaw

“Of course yes, that’s why I bought these items here. I enjoy the hot stuff, yeah.”

Q: “Did you meet a lot of people shopping, doing the same thing that you were doing?”

Dr. Shaw

“We see a lot of people shopping and they were in good spirit, in Christmas spirit; they were enjoying, yeah.”

Well I hope you and your family have a great Christmas.

Dr. Shaw

“We went to the music store and we bought a CD, music cassette which is fun. That’s the loudest store on the street.”

Well I hope that you enjoy your music in the background of your dinner. Thank you. There is one happy consumer, now let’s talk to one happy producer. This is Wilton from McKesey Meats.

Q: “Wilton how long have you been out here?”

Wilton Gordon, McKesey Meats

“From early this morning about around eleven.”

Q: “How have sales been?”

Wilton Gordon

“Since we came out it’s been going good up to now.”

Q: “What do people do when they come to the truck and they look at the meat?”

Wilton Gordon

“They normally inspect the Picnic (Ham) by looking at it if it’s too fatty or has more meat than the weight that it has.”

Q: “Why is McKesey the better meat?”

Wilton Gordon

“Because it is not too salty and it’s the ingredient that it has, the sugar cured ham, that’s the ingredient that develop the product and we don’t put much salt in it.”

Q: “You expect sales to pick up today?”

Wilton Gordon

“Probably in an hour more or less.”

Q: “Were you out here all this week?”

Wilton Gordon

“Yes, from Wednesday morning up to Friday.”

Q: “Have there been a lot of people on the street doing their Christmas shopping?”

Wilton Gordon

“Yes, from what I can see and as you can see there are still a lot of people out here.”

Q: “Have you gotten all your shopping done?”

Wilton Gordon

“Well, not really because I worked from yesterday evening from around six until eleven this morning making sure that the hams are already smoked and ready for shipping and come out here so we can sell to our customers.”

Q: “Well why don’t you give your family and friends a special gift and tell them Merry Christmas?”

Wilton Gordon

“I’d like to wish my mom Loyta Tillett and the rest of the Gordon family a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.”

Thanks Wilton. Yes, people certainly are out here peddling their products and there appears to be a lot of consumers hitting the pavement tonight.
