B.M.D.A. Members against Salary Cuts for Public Officers

The Belize Medical and Dental Association has surveyed its members and found a majority are against a salary cut and increment freeze for public health care workers.   The B.M.D.A. represents medical specialists and dentists from the public and private sector. Of the one hundred and fifty-nine participants in the survey, fifty-eight percent do not agree with a salary cut and fifty five percent oppose an increment freeze.  A release from the B.M.D.A. says “Underpaid, undermined and overworked with limited resources are already key factors that show under-appreciation of our service.  Physicians in general have always gone the extra mile for the benefit of their patients and have tend to leave personal and family time behind in many instances, but during this pandemic the toll was overwhelming for many of us.”  The Association calls on the Government to implement the United Nations Convention Against Corruption and says the medical community is open to dialogue to seek alternative solutions to the economic crisis.
