NCL to Return to Belize this Summer!

A regional online news source is reporting that Norwegian Cruise Line is returning to Belize at the end of the summer. The Norwegian Joy ship will be departing its home port in Montego Bay, Jamaica on August seventh and on its itinerary is a stop at the company’s Harvest Caye port off the Placencia coast in southern Belize. According to the Caribbean Journal, cruise lines have been adding home ports within the Caribbean, even as CDC continues its no-sail order for cruises from the United States. The Belize Tourism Board says this “signals the safe reopening of the cruise tourism sector in Belize…and thousands of Belizeans that work in this sector are ready to welcome cruise guests to our shores once again.” Back on April first, C.E.O. Nicole Solano of the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations confirmed this.

“The announcement had been made by CDC that the conditional sail order will not be lifted before November first. So that is the current date that we have from CDC, however, the cruise lines are now looking at operating out of home ports in the Caribbean. So that will give us some opportunity for potential restart before then. Initially, we had thought end of May, early June. It may not be so soon. We do not have a confirmed date yet for Belize, but we are very hopeful that within the summer months, we will be able to add – or something before August – we will be able to have some itinerary for Belize.”
