Hotel/Resort Guests Cancelling Reservations

As the situation becomes more volatile and the unions threaten with strike action, international tourists have become wary of their travel plans to the Jewel.  And it is already being reflected at some resorts and hotels across the country.  The Easter weekend saw record number of tourists arriving in Belize, surpassing the figures of 2019.  But today, the President of the Belize Hotel Association, Ted Tejada, reported to News Five that there have been an increasing number of cancelations already due to the trade dispute between G.O.B. and the unions.

“We have already started to receive cancelations. Hotels are reporting that rooms that have been booked for future months, people are already starting to cancel. Not because of COVID-19, not because of the vaccination but because what they are hearing about the country of Belize. Every single tourist that is going to travel, they are doing their proper research. They are researching, does a country like Belize require vaccines, do they require an app to download? Every country has a new regulation so they are researching before they travel. And now they are finding out that the unions are announcing a twenty-one days where they have said that there will be some type of action. No tourist wants to come to a country that is locked down.”
