$50 Million and No Country Office Says Mejia

Indira Mejia

According to Mejia and the Froses, R.S.L. was granted a twenty-five year lease for Commerce Bight by the outgoing administration just two days prior to the November eleventh General Elections.  That lease, she says, is under review by government.  Furthermore, Mejia asserts that R.S.L. does not have an office or a bank account in Belize, neither does SeaOne.

“R.S.L. at this moment, because we are aware that the twenty-five year lease which was signed two days prior to the election never tabled at the House of Representatives is under review and we understand from the Froses that R.S.L. is claiming hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages that they have invested in that port and to date the only thing that has been invested in that port is the picture of a security booth and a gate.  And as we speak, R.S.L. does not have a bank account, the bank account is in the name of Paul Martin.  A fifty million U.S. dollar investment and they don’t even have a proper bank account, so it raises a lot of questions as to what is the real purpose of R.S.L. and with SeaOne, there is nobody or office in Belize so we can’t get any answers from SeaOne as to what is their objective that they want with the port.”
