P.S.U. Serves Notice of Trade Dispute to G.O.B.

The Public Service Union officially served the government with its notice of a trade dispute on Monday, following a poll of its membership after the government’s 2021-22 budget presentation.  The dispute comes on the heels of government’s intent to freeze increments and slashing salaries by ten percent for three years despite protracted efforts by the unions to stave these off.  The letter was served to the Minister of Labour by the P.S.U., as the bargaining agent for public officers.

“We believe that we are now at an impasse and we believe that based on the sentiments of public officers, they are not intending to take this one sitting down. And so having now served the government with a trade dispute, a notice of industrial action which could lead to strike action within twenty-one days, we expect that the Ministry of Finance, via the Prime Minister’s Office or the Ministry of Labour, whichever takes the lead on this matter will be in touch with the union to see the way forward. And of course the intention is to reach an amicable settlement that would satisfy public officers as well as the government.”
