Hilbert Romero

While the spate of shootings in Belize City left several persons injured, fortunately no one was killed.  The most recent attack, however, took place around nine-thirty on Sunday night on Logwood Street.  Quick police response led to the detention of the alleged gunman who reportedly turned his weapon on the officer.  In the process, Ian Jenkins, the suspect in the armed attack, was shot in the finger.

Supt. Hilbert Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“On Sunday April 11th, 2021 around 9:30 p.m., police responded to a shooting incident on Logwood Street, Belize City.  Upon their arrival they found Ian Jenkins with a gunshot injury to the finger and Denvoy Bartley was found also in the area with gushot injuries to the body.  Investigation revealed that Denvoy Bartley was in the area when he was approached by a male person who fired shots at him.  The police responded quickly which led to the detention of Ian Jenkins and a firearm was found with him.  The police officer who responded reported that he came under threat from this person who had the firearm and he fired a shot which caught the person on the finger.  Bartley remains at the K.H.M.H. in a critical condition and Jenkins was treated and released from the K.H.M.H.”
