18 people left homeless after a blaze in the north!

A fire wiped out four small homes in Corozal and has left eighteen people without a roof over their heads. According to police, the blaze started just after midnight on Sunday. Police say that it appears that a candle may have started the fire:

“Corozal Police were called to a fire scene on Olga Marin Drive in Corozal Town where upon arrival they visited the home of Rosita Gilharry where they observed four small wooden structures engulfed in flames. Ms Gilharry told police that sometime after midnight she was alerted by a family member that one of the houses was on fire. The houses reportedly didn’t have electricity and candles were being used and so that is believed to be preliminarily the cause of the fire. Those homes were occupied by some eighteen persons. No one was injured during the fire, however all properties were destroyed and those buildings were not insured. We are still awaiting an official report from the fire department as to the cause of the fire.”
