Alleged Sea Pirate Escapes from Dangriga Police

Fernando Avila

Nineteen-year-old Fernando Avila is on the lam after escaping lawful custody on March thirty-first.  The Dangriga resident is one of six Belizeans who were caught by Honduran authorities in Puerto Cortez last week in relation to coastal piracy.  Avila was being held at the Dangriga Police Station when he managed to abscond.  It is believed that he acted with several others robbing fishermen of their produce in Belizean waters.  The Belize Police Department has issued a bulletin for Avila’s arrest.
