2 Men Freed of Home Invasion Charges

Tyrese Gladden

Two men were today cleared of all charges, including attempted murder, in relation to a home invasion in May of last year when an elderly man was badly beaten and stabbed, then robbed inside his small house in Ladyville.  When Tyrese Gladden and Shyiem Casimiro appeared before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser today, the man who had made the police statement identifying them as his attackers told the Court that he did not wish to proceed with the court matter. Sixty-one-year-old Michael Avilez took the Bible and swore that he had not been threatened, bribed or coerced into dropping the charges against the men, but that he simply had forgiven them because he has known them since they were children.

Shayeim Casimiro

Before freeing the men of the charges, Chief Magistrate gave Gladden and Casimiro a stern lecture and told them that they owed Avilez an apology at least for what they did to him. They told Avilez that they had just left a party and were under the influence and were oblivious to what they were doing.  But while Casimiro was free to leave the Court following the stern warning, Gladden was handcuffed and escorted back to the prison. That’s because he has another charge of attempted murder to answer to for an incident that happened before the home invasion.  Gladden is accused of attempting to kill Philip Guzman in January of 2020. The case for that matter will be called on April fifteenth.
