Special Constables Get Training in Green Law

A two-week training for special constables ended this week in Sarteneja. The constables who work at the Shipstern Nature Reserve attended sessions on Green Law and learned about making arrests, building their cases and what to do and not do when dealing with people violating the laws of the reserve.  The special constables were sworn in at ceremony earlier this week.

“Today marks a new chapter in your lives. As a law enforcement officer, you will be at some time in time and time again you will be called upon to do the unthinkable. Though you probably will never believe so, or perceive yourselves in such a light, you will be heroes in your own right.  And be called upon to perform deeds that few will ever understand, appreciate or even be able to perform themselves.”

Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management, Orlando Habet, saluted the twenty-nine park rangers graduating as special constables.  The intensive training program was funded by the Protected Areas Conservation Trust and facilitated by instructors from the Police Training Academy, the National Biodiversity Office, and the legal counsel within the Ministry.
